September 2007
meditateLiving each moment with Joy!

Life is not a journey or a destination; it's a series of moments or experiences. I kissed my daughter and sent her off to college today and then realized that I was so busy getting ready for this event, that I can barely remember the experiences.

I find it amazing that we don't use the word "Joy" very often in today's busy lifestyle.  We mainly use this word around the Holidays when we are celebrating and singing songs like, "Joy to the World".  I remember taking a workshop in NYC a few years ago with life coach, Rhonda Britten.  At the end of the workshop, I went home with a drawing I had made representing my ideal self with the words, "Inner Joy/Inner Peace" written at the top.  What does this mean?  It was the beginning of a process that led me to where I am today...helping others live with Purpose, Pas'sion and Prosperity.

Lance H.K. Secretan's Spirit @ Work cards bring spirit and values to work.  It is a velvet-covered book containing 77 illustrated cards with key words and phrases that inspire - inviting spirit into your work and life.  We pull one of these cards prior to our Monday meeting to create the intention for that week.  It's amazing how perfect they always seem.

Today I pulled a card with the word, Joy.  I want to share a few words from his writings with you. Lance writes:

"Finding Joy in our work depends, in part, on the relationship between our Soul and our work, the degree to which our work engages and nourishes our Souls.  Test the relationship between your current work and your Soul - the level of Soulfulness in your work - to confirm that you have found your Calling, and if your answer is uncertain, real Joy in your work-life will continue to elude you.

When we align our Calling with our Mastery and fuel this with great passion in the Service of others, we can truly make a difference in the world.  Touching Souls in this way - being aware of and leveraging our gifts - brings great Joy - to ourselves and others.  Our Calling becomes our Joy, because it becomes joyful for others. George Bernard Shaw wrote: This is the true joy in life, the being used for a purposed recognized by yourself as a mighty one."

During the last eight weeks, Jill and I have been leading a free group teleclass with our charter Café members focused on Creating Your Perfect Life.  Each of these sessions has focused on:
  • Understanding The Law of Attraction
  • Identifying our Unique Abilities and Talents
  • Learning how to increase our Income, Energy and Freedom
  • Creating Systems, Delegating and Outsourcing
The reward for learning these secrets and incorporating them into your life is that you begin to have even more time to focus on what you do best and what brings you Joy!

Finding your calling and then discovering how to create a passive income while making a difference in the world is one of the ways we at Smart Women's Coaching help women live with Purpose, Pas'sion and Prosperity.

I invite you to listen to our last Café Chat group coaching session with Jill, me and Contributing Expert, Ruth Klein as we lead a discussion called, "Allowing & Attracting Abundance - Manage Your Time, Energy & Money" Click here to listen to our Podcast of this session.

Is Stress Taking Its Toll on You?
Sherry DayBy Sherry G. Day, M.S., President & Chief Learning Officer
Executive Resources-Human Potential Consultants, L.C.

It is the beginning of a "new year". I have always started my "new year" in September. You might think I do this since my birthday is on the second of September, but that is not the reason. September is the beginning of the school year. It signals a time to get organized again after a relaxed summer routine. It is time to start thinking about flood of holidays that come too quickly. It is a time to switch our wardrobe colors and fabrics that stay with us for more months than any other fashion season. It is also the ramp-up for the "stress-o-meter" that has mellowed over the summer.

In this bustling 24/7 world today, it is difficult to carve out some quiet space. As working women (a category that includes mothers working at raising their children), each of us has too many lists, too many tasks, too many requests from others, too many expectations and not enough time or energy to meet our own standards of perfection or self-expectations. We fail to cut ourselves some slack as the calendar fills up.

As we schedule, juggle and run through each day and well into the night, we tell ourselves we are coping and have it under control. We are convinced we can live on little sleep, grabbing a morsel of food here and there and multitasking - even our conversations. We are aware of the silent enemies of our health: heart disease, various cancers, exhaustion, etc. We tell ourselves it won't happen to us - or when the thought of the mere possibility of one of these knocking us down comes to mind, we shake it off and say we don't have time for that!

There is a very sneaky condition that is quietly working against us: stress. Oh sure, we feel the stress. We hear ourselves lose our tempers, raise our voices at the ones we love, forget were we parked the car or why we are even in that parking lot. Certain times of the year such as back-to-school, holidays and family vacations add extra stress even though they are supposed to be fun and special family times.
What we are not seeing is what stress is doing to us. Stress is the body's reaction to the demands of life. There is good stress; it motivates us and is necessary. There is bad stress to which we react in a variety of ways - both outwardly and inwardly. The real culprit is chronic stress, which can leave us with a persistent feeling of anxiety, anger or frustration and keeps our bodies in a "crisis mode" for long periods of time. It wears us down, interferes with sleep or digestion, and makes us irritable and prone to headaches and other muscular tension.

Chronic stress can exhaust our adrenal glands and throw off the body's chemical balance. It can cause a drop in melatonin, the sleep hormone, and a rise in cortisol, the stress hormone. This sets us up for what we may think is an "unexplained weight gain." Actually, the explanation is stress: the kind of stress we have been pushing down inside because we don't have time to deal with it. The longer we put off taking steps to manage stress, the more serious the problem becomes. The more we diet and fail to see the pounds dropping, the more frustrated we become, which increases the stress. Now we are caught in the vicious cycle. In the meantime, our bodies are suffering. Our relationships begin to suffer. We don't even like ourselves. And it goes on and on...

It is time to listen and abide to the old adage: Women, take care of yourselves first so you can take care of the other important people in your lives.

As an over-achieving perfectionist and breast cancer survivor with depleted adrenal glands and digestive distress, I encourage you to simplify your life, carefully consider the impact of saying "yes" too often, and take care of yourself. You cannot outrun the odds so slow down and catch up on caring for yourself.

Letters from Africa
meditate Peggi Tabor Letter #24
Dear Family and Friends,

Can you stand another letter about our farm animals?   I'll try to keep it
brief.

You may recall that one of our cows had a calf a month or so ago -I assisted with a flashlight - remember? Well, our other cow, I call her Bessie, was brought home from the fields last Tuesday because she was about to give birth.  I don't know how many of you have seen this but it's pretty amazing.

The calf's feet and head came out first then it's body.  Most of this happened while Bessie was calmly munching on a pile of grass but just before actually dropping the calf she walked around in a circle.  She then licked the little one clean and the baby was on its feet within less than an hour looking under its mother for some milk.  This all went just fine but the afterbirth didn't come out.  It didn't come out Tuesday or Wednesday in spite of a rash of bizarre cultural potions being administered to poor Bessie.  Matjeeka was really worried so on Thursday I traveled to the closest town that has a vet.  We had a long talk.  He told me that the problem could be solved with a pill.  Well, not a pill exactly, a suppository.  He gave me the soap cake sized suppository, a plastic glove that went from my hand to my armpit and very exact instruction on what to do.  I said, "Please tell me you're kidding."  He wasn't.

Now wouldn't you think one of these professional herd boys would offer to do the deed?  Not on your life.  They looked at me like I was crazy.  No way were they going to stick their arm you-know-where.  They did, however, put ropes around Bessie's legs and bring her to the ground.  She was not at all impressed with this latest remedy and struggled so much that it took me several tries to get my arm in deep enough. I'll admit that this was mostly because I was so nervous and at first pulled out when she struggled.  When I finally got my hand in to the right place to leave the pill she made a huge heave and I got knocked onto my back into a pile of very fresh dung.

The doctor said it could take some hours for the pill to work so we kept a vigil on Bessie throughout the night.  By morning only some of the placenta had come out so we had to go to step two which was a

September is International Update Your Resumé Month
Joyce Fortier By Joyce Fortier
If a recruiter, or professional acquaintance, were to call you tomorrow with a hot job lead and request that your resumé is sent to them immediately, is your resumé totally updated and ready to send? Is your resume one you are proud to show others? Does it reflect your value - is it a "10"?

September is International Update Your Resume Month. Does your resume need updating? Despite all the technology today, a resume is an essential tool when conducting an effective job search, or when making an upward move in your own company. It is the only way others have to determine the value you bring to a position when you aren't there to speak for yourself. So, it's critical that your resume accurately reflect your skill set and the specific contributions you offer for the job you are seeking. Your resume must answer the decision makers question "Why should I call you for an interview instead of anyone else?"
So, how do you know if your resume is a "10"?
  • Does it indicate the type of position you want?
  • Does it show your unique skills and core competencies for that position?
  • Does it show how you have specific accomplishments that reflect your skill set?
  • Does it show career highlights that give a thumb-nail sketch of your capabilities?
  • Does it showcase your credentials and education, but not references?
  • Does it show your expertise and why you are the best candidate for the job?
  • Does it have strong content and a good visual presentation?
  • Is it formatted so that it flows well and is easy to read?
  • Does it look professional for the level of the position you want?

Ask yourself this question: With the huge investment in time and money for your education, your solid career credentials, experience and salary expectations of $50,000, $75,000, or $100,000+, do you want to be represented by an amateur resumé?

If you were the decision maker, would you call you for an interview after reading your resume?

Your resume must speak for you when you're not there, so it must be the BEST - you're competing with your peers and you won't get a second chance to make a GREAT first impression. Isn't it worth doing right?

I will critique your resume, and give you a professional opinion of what needs to be changed, if anything. All you need to do is send your resume to me at careerist@aol.com and include a date, time and phone number when you can be reached - I prefer going over your resume with you. However, if you want a critique by email, that can be done too, just let me know.

Email your resume today; I'd love to see it!

Also, feel free to email me with any questions you have concerning job search techniques, your resume, a cover letter, networking, working with recruiters, salary negotiation, or any other question you have. I will answer them in the newsletter. Conducting a job search today can be a daunting experience, so let me know what subjects interest you. I look forward to hearing from you.

BE THE ARCHITECT OF YOUR LIFE, NOT THE VICTIM OF YOUR CAREER!

Joyce Fortier is the newest Contributing Expert of the Smart Women's Café™.  Welcome, Joyce!
"Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?"
 MMI

I wanted to share something that has changed my financial life. And it is NOT about any type of business or financial investment. It is about how to create whatever personal or financial success you desire.

Have you ever wondered why some people seem to get rich easily, while others seem destined for a life of financial struggle?

Do you think that the difference is found in their education, intelligence, skills, timing, or their choice of jobs, businesses, or investments?

The surprising answer is: None of the above!

It has everything to do with your "financial blueprint". You can learn about this blueprint, AND permanently change it in order to start living a life filled with abundance--with ease!

T. Harv Eker is the author of the #1 NY Times bestselling book, Secrets of the Millionaire Mind™, and his programs have changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world.

In his book, Harv teaches you how to identify your "financial blueprint" which is our ability to be successful. This is often limited by how high your blueprint is set for, much like a thermostat limits the temperature in a room. Unfortunately, as I quickly learned, many of us have an extremely low blueprint due to the conditioning we received as children. It's no one's fault, but simply the way it is for so many of us.

But--and this is big--you can learn to RESET your blueprint for a higher level of success.

With the purchase of Secrets of the Millionaire Mind you receive 2 tickets that allow you to attend a 3 day experiential program that changes your financial blueprint on the spot! For only $97.00 per person. It is amazing! The program will be offered in Detroit for the first time ever on November 2-4, 2007.

To better understand the life changing potential this program offers a preview Millionaire Mind Evening seminar is being held at the Hyatt Regency in Dearborn on September 25th from 7-10 PM.

I know, I know. Believe me--I was skeptical at first too. You just have to attend in order to understand and you have absolutely nothing to lose. That's why I'm encouraging you in the strongest possible way to do whatever it takes to be at this event.
In this profound seminar you will learn:
  • The hidden cause of almost all financial problems
  • How your childhood conditioning is affecting you financially today
  • How to RESET your financial thermostat for automatic success
  • How to train your "mind" to work for you, instead of against you
The preview is valued at $39.00 but is FREE when your register at www.peakpotentials.com/activate AND use ticket #462151. Once you register let me know and I will send you the physical tickets required to get in. This will be a SOLD OUT event so I urge you to reserve your seat today.

I hope you take advantage of this rare and amazing opportunity to transform your financial health--I did, and I'm glad! If you have any questions or would like more information, let me know. Smart Women's Coaching® is helping to promote this event and 100% of the proceeds will be used to support the HAVEN, a charity dedicated to supporting and empowering victims of physical abuse and domestic violence, so please purchase your tickets using our ticket code #462151 tohelp support this great cause.  Thank you!
